history

Walter FitzAlan , the first High Steward of Scotland , placed the lands under the control of Paisley Abbey between 1165 and 1172 . In the late 16th century, the church building was assigned to the Parish Monkton and served as its parish church until 1779. A renovation was probably made in the 17th century. Two windows were added in the following century. In 1837 the masonry was stabilized to prevent it from collapsing.

Worth mentioning are the buttresses on the eastern gable side and two profiled capitals . Opposite pointed arched portals are embedded on the eaves .
