from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Old Vic Company was the ensemble of the Old Vic Theater between 1929 and 1963.

After a somewhat eventful history of the venue, the company was formed on it in 1929 under the direction of Sir John Gielgud . In 1946 the Bristol Old Vic was founded as an offshoot . Its history continues unbroken until today.

In 1963 the venue and the core of the company were taken over by the Royal National Theater , newly founded as a savings model, under its first director Sir Laurence Olivier . In 1976 the National Theater moved into its new building.

From 1988 Peter Hall directed his own company. In 2003 it was announced that the revived Old Vic Company would start their own productions. In fact, the first season opened in 2004 under the artistic direction of Kevin Spacey.
