Olav II's death

Olsok (from Old Norse : ólafsvaka ≈ Olafswache ) is a name for the commemorative and public holiday on July 29, 1030 , the anniversary of the death of the Norwegian King Olav the Holy in the Battle of Stiklestad .

Olav is considered to be the promoter of Christianity in Norway , and like his vigils, he retained his importance even after the Reformation . His day is called Ólavsøka as an official holiday in the Faroe Islands and Olai in Denmark ; in Sweden, only committed in a few areas like Härjedalen , it is called Olofs- or Olsmässa .
