Olympus OM-2SP

The Olympus OM-2SP , also Olympus OM-2S (North America) is an SLR camera built from 1984 . It is the heavily modified version of the OM-2 and can be fully integrated into the Olympus OM system . It is designed for 100,000 trips.

Differences to the OM-2n

  • The exposure time is displayed on an LC display . It works in third stages and can be illuminated.
  • the camera has spot metering in tracking mode .
  • There was also an automatic program , which - like the automatic timing - is based on the measurement of the ADM .
  • In the event of overexposure, a warning signal sounds which can be switched off.
  • In contrast to the previous model, the hot shoe is permanently installed in the OM-2SP.
  • The camera no longer has a main switch, the camera electronics are started up by pressing the shutter release button.
  • The viewfinder became slightly more confusing.
  • Different, wider shape of the finder cap.
  • The rewind knob on the front has been replaced by a button on the top right of the camera.
  • Electronic self-timer that flashes and beeps when it expires.
  • Main switch now located around the rewind button, similar to that of the OM-4.
  • Cable connection with 5 contacts for the T-flash system on the left front of the camera.
  • A handle can be attached to the right of the camera to improve the feel.

Differences to the OM-4

  • No multispot measurement
  • No measured value memory
  • The rewind button, sensitivity dial and shutter release are derived from the OM-2
  • The shortest shutter speed is only 1/1000 sec. Available (the OM-4 offers 1/2000 sec.)
  • While the OM-4 only offers aperture priority and fully manual exposure compensation, the OM-2 SP also has automatic programs on board.
  • The light inlet for the LCD window is located on the right front of the camera (next to the type designation), while on the OM-4 it is on the viewfinder cap above the Olympus logo.
  • Different location of the LC display in the viewfinder.
  • The motor cannot rewind the film.
  • No shadow and hilight correction in spot mode.

The bottom line is that the OM-2 SP is a mixture between OM-2n and OM-4; the camera is more related to the OM-4 than to its actual predecessor.
