The Omak rock , also known as Balance Rock known is a floating rocks in the Colville Indian Reservation in the State of Washington . It is located in the Greater Omak area in the Okanogan Country . The granite - boulder is about 1,340 ft (408 m) from the shore of Omak Lake Station. He survived the earthquake in the North Cascades of 1872. This fact was the basis of studies of the acceleration and intensity of the quake. It is believed that the epicenter of the quake was very close to Omak Rock. The Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation believe that the rock represents a symbol of the perfection of nature in the area.
