Ono-ha Ittō-ryū

The Ono-ha Ittō-ryū ( Japanese 小野 派 一刀 流 ) is a Japanese sword fighting school ( Kenjutsu ), which was founded towards the end of the 16th century by Ono Jirōemon Tadaaki as a direct successor to the swordsman Itō Ittōsai (founder of the Ittō-ryū ) . Ono was teacher of the second Shogun s Tokugawa Hidetada , making it one of the most important fencing schools. Daimyō were trained in this direction, the line of daimyō of Hirosaki , the Tsugaru , since the appointment of the swordsman and politician Sasamori Junzō as head, today the main line of Ono-ha Ittō-ryū forms.

His son, Pastor Sasamori Takemi , was appointed as his official successor in 1975. Until his death in August 2017, Sasamori Takemi Sōke acted as the head of the Onoha Ittō-ryū in the 17th generation.

Sasamori Takemi declared in his will Master Yabuki Yūji the 18th head of the Onoha Ittō-ryū. Yabuki Yūji Sōke officially took office in October 2017.

The Ono-ha Ittō-ryū is currently also being trained in Germany and neighboring countries.
