Hirosaki ( Japanese 弘 前 市 , - shi ) is a city in Aomori Prefecture in the north of the interior of Honshū , the main island of Japan .

Hirosaki is located in the Tsugaru Plain , about 30 km south-west of Aomori .
history
Hirosaki is an old castle town . In the Meiji period on April 1, 1889, the place was named a city (shi). It was the first in the Aomori prefecture, but had to leave the seat of the prefecture administration to the more conveniently located Aomori .

economy
The production of paints and lacquer goods plays an economic role. The Hirosaki area is also one of the most important Japanese fruit-growing areas, especially for apples and cherries . The optical industry is represented by Tamron .

The cityscape also includes some samurai houses and especially buildings from the beginning of the Meiji period in the western style.
In addition to the cherry blossom festival in spring, the Neputa festival, which takes place every year in the first week of August, is also famous. Then illuminated structures in fan shape are driven through the city on carts.

Hirosaki is home to the Hirosaki State University and the Hirosaki Gakuin University and the Tōhoku Women's University . Furthermore, there are two short colleges in Hirosaki , 10 high schools, 17 middle schools, 37 elementary schools and one that is both middle and elementary school.
