The KK Tamron ( Jap. 株式会社タムロン , Kabushiki Kaisha Tamuron , Eng. Tamron Co., Ltd. ) is a Japanese manufacturer of camera lenses , optical components and optics for industrial use. The company, founded in 1950, repeatedly contributed to the development of photo technology and led u. a. the first connection for interchangeable lenses on SLR cameras .

In the 2019 financial year (January 1 to December 31), 4,609 employees (2018: 5,046) achieved sales of 63.285 billion yen (2018: 61.815 billion). Tamron Co., Ltd. shares are traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The Sony Corporation is with a stake of 12.07 per cent of the second largest shareholder of Tamron.

history

Tamron was founded in 1950 by Takeyuki Arai. The company name refers to Uhyoue Tamura, a designer of optical components.

In 1957 Tamron presented the world's first system for using interchangeable lenses for single-lens reflex cameras with the T2 connector. In 1985 Fotovix was introduced, a device for copying slides and negatives onto video tape. In 1992 a particularly compact superzoom lens from Tamron with a focal length of 28–200 mm came onto the market for the first time. In 1995 the camera manufacturer Bronica was taken over.

Tamron supports Micro Four Thirds and has been offering the 14–150 mm F / 3.5-5.8 Di III zoom lens for this standard since 2013.

Since 2018, Tamron has also been developing, producing and selling lenses with fixed focal lengths and zoom lenses for the E-bayonet from Sony. The 28–75 mm F / 2.8 Di III RXD appeared as the first interchangeable lens for mirrorless alpha system cameras with full-frame sensors. Tamron launched the high-speed standard zoom with autofocus in summer 2018. The Tamron lenses for camera housings with E-mount connection all have an identical filter diameter of 67 mm. In the summer of 2020, Tamron introduced the 28–200 mm F / 2.8–5.6 Di III RXD, the first high-speed superzoom.

The German branch was founded in 1982 and is now the European headquarters in Cologne . Tamron is a member of the Photo Industry Association (PIV). The PIV is the ideal sponsor of the world's leading trade fair photokina in Cologne. Tamron also supports Blende , Europe's largest competition for amateur photography.

The Japanese production facilities are located in Hirosaki (lens production), in the Namioka district of Aomori (lens production) and in Ōwani (injection molding plant). In Foshan , China , Tamron operates Optical Foshan Co. Ltd. a complete production line for lens and objective production as well as injection molding.

Interchangeable lenses

Tamron makes lenses that can be used with cameras from Canon , Nikon , Olympus , Panasonic , Pentax and Sony . Both lenses with fixed focal lengths and zoom lenses with variable focal lengths are manufactured. The lenses of the Super Performance (SP) series, which can consist of up to 250 parts, are considered to be of particularly high quality . Tamron divides its interchangeable lenses into three classes. Digitally integrated (Di) is intended for digital single-lens reflex cameras ( DSLR ) with full-frame and APS-C sensors. Di II is aimed at owners of DSLR cameras with APS-C sensors. Di III lenses are developed for mirrorless system cameras such as the Sony A7 with full-frame sensors . By using a Tamron teleconverter you can extend the focal length by a certain factor. With the help of an adapter, older lenses can also be connected to new camera models such as Canon EOS R , Canon EOS RP , Nikon Z6 and Nikon Z7 . Tamron's interchangeable lenses have received numerous awards from the European Imaging and Sound Association and the Technical Image Press Association .
