Tsugaru ( Japanese つ が る 市 , - shi ) is a city in Aomori Prefecture on Honshū , the main island of Japan .

Tsugaru is west of Aomori and north of Hirosaki .

history

Tsugaru was formed on February 11, 2005 from the former Machi Kizukuri ( 木造 町 , -machi ) as well as the Mura Morita ( 森 田村 , -mura ), Kashiwa ( 柏村 , -mura ), Inagaki ( 稲 垣 村 , -mura ) and Shariki ( 車 力 村 , -mura ) founded in Nishitsugaru-gun .
