history

The basic funding of the Open Library of Humanities comes from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation , the running costs are covered by a Library Partnership Subsidy Model . The Open Library are several advisory committees to the side such as the Academic Steering & Advocacy Committee, the co-founder of PLOS Michael Eisen , Jean-Claude Guédon, a professor at the University of Montreal and the Director of Scientific Communication of the Modern Language Association , Kathleen Fitzpatrick belong . There is an internationalization committee. According to the committee member Francisco Osorio, the open access model of the Open Library of Humanities can also help researchers who want to publish in languages other than English.

Originally, OLH was supposed to run on the basis of Open Journal Systems ; However, in 2017 OLH started building a new platform called Janeway . Currently (2020) the part of the homepage for the press and the online magazine Orbit are hosted on this new platform. The University of Lincoln , in partnership with the Public Knowledge Project, is offering a scholarship-funded study place (to earn an M. Sc.) In information technology research aimed at developing an XML typesetting tool like this planned by the Open Library of Humanities. In November 2013 it was announced that the Public Knowledge Project would fund the development of the typesetting tool. It is now called meTypeset .

The OLH's publication model is based on the support of a number of international libraries , which relieves the OLH of the need to charge authors for printing costs.

The project started on September 28, 2015.
