Operational tidal Elbe model

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Operational Tidal Elbe Model, also abbreviated as OPTEL, is used for water level predictions in the Lower Elbe and the 3-D representation of the seabed.

The OPTEL project for the 3-D representation of the Elbe estuary was started in 2008, is currently being tested under the leadership of the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) and is to be completed in 2011. In addition to the BSH, the German Weather Service , the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) and the Federal Institute for Hydraulic Engineering are also involved . Remote-controlled underwater vehicles (ROV) were procured and used to support the survey work and especially to take underwater images of the seabed. With the underwater vehicles, remotely operated from the mother ship, called Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), risky work for divers could be avoided.
