Operculum (brain)

Operculum

As operculum ( lat. "Cover"), those of cortical areas of the frontal (frontal lobe), temporal ( temporal lobe ) and parietal lobe ( parietal lobe ) of the cerebrum denotes that the lateral brain furrow ( sulcus lateralis or fissure Sylvii abut) and the Cover island bark .

Depending on how it belongs to the corresponding cerebral lobe, the operculum is further subdivided into:

  • Operculum frontale : It lies between the ramus anterior and ramus ascendens of the lateral sulcus and is the seat of the motor language center .
  • Orbital operculum : It lies below the anterior branch .
  • Frontoparietal operculum : It lies above the lateral sulcus , between its ascending ramus and its posterior end.
  • Operculum temporale : It lies below the lateral sulcus .
