Kyoto Opera Festival

The Kyōto Opera Festival ( Japanese '響 の 都' オ ペ ラ の 祭典 Kyō no Miyako - Opera no strings , dt. "Opera Festival Capital of Sound", English deviating "Kyoto Opera Festival") is an opera festival in Kyoto that has been organized in cooperation with Italy since 2013 , Japan .

In a press conference on October 21, 2013, Daisaku Kadokawa , Mayor of the city of Kyoto, and Francesco Ernani , director of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna , announced their intention to hold an opera festival together. Just two days later, on October 23, two works were performed under the direction of Yoshida Hirofumi in the Kiyomizu-dera with chairs , one each from the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and one from the “Friends of Japanese Arts” ( 日本 芸 術 振興 協会 Nihon Geijutsu Shinkō Kyōkai ).

The different English and Japanese names of the event go back to a play on words with the unison of the first syllable "Kyō" of the venue Kyōto with the Onyomi reading of the word Hibiku or Hibiki ( , echo, sound). In addition, the second character of Kyōto ( 京都 ) means "capital" (part of the Japanese name in the Kunyomi reading: miyako ).
