Oplan 5027

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

OPLAN 5027 ( Operations plan , formerly War Plan ) is a military plan of the United States for a possible war between North and South Korea. The current version of the plan assumes that North Korea would start a new Korean war without any visible mobilization. A devastating attack on Seoul is expected, mainly with artillery. Due to the massive technological superiority of the armed forces of South Korea and the United States, North Korea's only chance of victory is to overrun the troops stationed in Korea through a numerical superiority with the aim of either conquering the entire peninsula before relievingcan arrive, or inflict at least enough casualties on the defenders to force a peace. The plan of operations therefore envisages attacking the North Korean ground forces very quickly using the navy and air force. The artillery pieces and bomber units aiming at Seoul would be attacked first. The advance warning time is decisive here.

The chronology of the plan updates can be found at the end of the document. So OPLAN 5027-04 stands for updates in 2014.
