Opposite Track Path

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Opposite track path (OTP) to German about opposite rail of the track is a term from the terminology in the field of optical storage medium DVD . Is meant a method (it the reader DVD player ) allows very fast from the first to the second layer (layer) of a two-layer (double-layer) medium to change.

On a two-layer DVD with OTP, the track on the first layer spirals from the inside out (like a CD or single-layer DVD), whereas the track on the second layer runs from the outside in (like a vinyl record ). Both run in such a way that the DVD must turn in the same direction to read both tracks. If the DVD is read sequentially (which typically happens when the video material contained on it is played back), OTP enables the player to switch from one layer to the other without having to move the read head to the starting position inside the medium resume playback.
