Optical displacement set

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The optical shift theorem (also Freudenberg's rule of shift ; English Freudenberg’s rule of shift ) states that chiral molecules of similar constitution also have the same configuration if the derivatives of these compounds show an approximately equivalent shift in the rotational value in direction and amount.

The connection was first described by Karl Freudenberg in 1923 . At that time he was investigating derivatives of (+) - alanine , whose shift in rotational value he compared with the derivatives of (+) - lactic acid . Since the configuration of L - (+) - lactic acid was known, he concluded that (+) - alanine also had the L configuration.
