Oracle sayings

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Orakel-Sprüche is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 90). The work was performed for the first time on February 10, 1851 in the Sofienbad Hall .

Remarks

The waltz was composed for the Mardi Gras season in 1851 and premiered at a benefit ball. The title goes back to the oracle of Delphi, where, according to Greek mythology, the prophecies of the gods were once revealed. The event on February 10, 1851 in the Sofienbad Hall was preceded by a large advertising campaign, which led to an overcrowded hall.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 7 minutes. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
