The Orchard Beach Railroad is a former railway company in Maine ( United States ). It was founded on February 7, 1876. Their only route led from the center of the small town of Old Orchard Beach to Camp Ellis at the mouth of the Saco River and from the beginning was exclusively used for tourist traffic in the summer months. For reasons unknown, the five-foot gauge was chosen. The line went into operation in 1880. In 1883, Boston & Maine acquired the small railway company and incorporated the Old Orchard Beach – Camp Ellis railway into their network. Immediately afterwards it was switched to standard gauge . It was shut down at the end of the 1923 summer season.
