The Jewish Chamber Orchestra Munich ( Orchestra Jakobsplatz Munich until summer 2018 ) is a professional orchestra based in Munich . The orchestra has a solid musician base and is composed of Jewish and non-Jewish professional musicians.

history

The orchestra was founded as the Jakobsplatz Munich orchestra in 2005 by the conductor Daniel Grossmann , who has been the orchestra's artistic director since then. Since the 2018/19 season the orchestra has been called the “Jewish Chamber Orchestra Munich”.

The orchestra plays in various concert halls and theaters in and outside Munich.

Tours led the OJM u. a. to Austria, Hungary, Romania, Israel, Moldova, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Czech Republic, Sweden, Poland, Lithuania, China and North America. In November 2016, the OJM made a guest appearance for the first time with the Jewish New Year's Concert in the chamber music hall of the Berlin Philharmonic . In February 2018, the orchestra was part of a silent film concert for the second time as part of the Berlin International Film Festival .

Content orientation

The artistic direction of the orchestra is to make contemporary Jewish culture visible and tangible. Mainly, but not exclusively, music by Jewish composers is played. The main focus is on a strong reference to the present, which is also evident from the awarding of various composition commissions, e.g. B. to Moritz Gagern , who composed a full-length Klezmer work , which premiered on May 23, 2017 in the Muffathalle in Munich.

Opera school

In September 2017, the orchestra was accepted into the “Excellent orchestral landscape Germany” program initiated by Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters with the “Opera School” project for children and young people .

The project is intended (from mid-2018 to the end of 2019) to offer around 100 children and young people aged 7 to 18 from socially disadvantaged families in the Munich area the opportunity to gain an insight into all areas of professional music theater and the production process free of charge through workshops and lessons a new production.
