The order “9. September 1944 ” ( Bulgarian Орден“ 9 септември 1944 ” ) was an Order of Merit of the Kingdom of Bulgaria (1945 to 1946) and the People's Republic of Bulgaria from 1946 to 1990. It was donated in memory of the Communists' seizure of power in Bulgaria in 1944 . It was awarded to military personnel for services in connection with the army revolt on September 9, 1944 and the formation of the People's Republic. It was awarded to civilians for service with the Bulgarian government. In wartime it was intended for officers and leaders of the Bulgarian People's Army for courage and leadership.

The order consists of three stages in two departments for military and civil merit. Military merit awards have two crossed swords through the star angles.

Appearance

The award is a five-pointed white enameled gold star. The medallion shows the portrait of the Bulgarian freedom hero Wassil Levski , which is surrounded by a green wreath of leaves. In the lapel of the first stage is the three-line inscription 9 септ. 1944 (September 9, 1944). At the II. And III. The inscription of the lapel is embedded in the wreath. The III. In contrast to the first two, step is enamelled in red.

Carrying method

The first stage was originally worn on a red ribbon around the neck and is slightly larger than the other two. The II. And III. First level was a plug-in badge . Later, the way of wearing was standardized so that all three steps were worn on a ribbon on the left side of the chest. The first stage band is wine red with a white-green border on both sides. The bands of the other two levels are red with a light blue border on both sides, with the second level also having a light blue central stripe.

Awards

The first holder of the order was Georgi Dimitrov , who received the award in the 1st level with swords. Until the abolition of the order in 1990, it was awarded a total of 71,007 times.
