The medal "In the service of the socialist fatherland" ( Medalia în serviciul patriei socialiste ) donated to the order on the same day , however, was awarded to non-commissioned officers of the troops of the Interior Ministry and the secret service. The first form of the medal, which was awarded from 1963 to 1966, had two classes and was worn in gold or silver on the ribbon. The oval medal shows on its obverse a round medallion in which there is the national coat of arms with the capitals of Romania RPR , which is surrounded by a half-wreath of laurel branches, which are held together at their intersection with a red ribbon. At the top of the medallion there is an extended halo of rays, which symbolizes the rising sun. The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, shows within a ring the inscription: IN SERVICIUL / PATRIEI SOCIALISTE .

The medal was worn on a pentagonal clasp on the left chest of the borrower. The 1st class ribbon is dark blue with two red, two blue and a white central stripe. The hem is also white. The 2nd class ribbon is identical but has three blue stripes.

In 1966, the layout of the medal was adjusted and awarded until 1989. It shows the capital letters RSR on the obverse . The ribbon and the inscription on the medal remained identical.
