Order of the Bear

The Order of the Bear , also Order of the Bear , Order of the Bear , Bear religious and St. Gallus Orden called, was a medieval order of knights , which in 1213 by Emperor Frederick II. Was donated.

The purpose of the order was to recognize loyal service. The nobles of Switzerland and especially the Abbot of St. Gallen were honored . The emperor made the abbot grand master and allowed him to be awarded the order later.

The order had a great reputation among the nobility, when Switzerland became independent from the Habsburgs, it went out.

Order decoration

The order decoration showed the image of a black bear on the top of a mountain in a silver round shield. The award was worn on a gold chain around the neck.
