Organización Democrática Nacionalista

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Organización Democrática Nacionalista (ORDEN) was a paramilitary organization in El Salvador . The organization Orden was founded in 1961 and officially dissolved in 1979.

history

ORDEN was an instrument of the Salvadoran Army (FAES) to collect information for the intelligence services . However, it was used to counter insurgency and carried out massacres and other terrorist acts against left-wing rebels in order to support the country's conservative government. The importance of ORDEN lay among other things in the fact that farmers and agricultural workers were recruited for this organization and used for oppression in their society.

In 1963, the Kennedy administration sent ten Special Forces military advisers to El Salvador to help General Jose Alberto Medrano build the organization.

The Green Berets trained the so-called “citizen squads” in collecting information and in political murder in coordination with the FAES. The paramilitary concept of ORDEN corresponded to that of the "Hamlet Militia" or "Self Defense Corps" of the Strategic Hamlet Program in South Vietnam, the "Civilian Armed Force Geographical Unit Active Auxiliary" (CAA) in the Philippines , the " Patrullas de Autodefensa Civil " in Guatemala , the “ Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia ” and the “ Village Guard System ” in Turkey .

From the election of Sánchez Hernández as President of the Republic of El Salvador , this became her highest superior. In 1965 the intelligence service for all regular troops and affiliated units of El Salvador was assigned to the Agencia Nacional de Seguridad Salvadoreña (ANSESAL).

The hierarchy was made up of high commanders of the military who were directly subordinate to the President and acted like the nervous system of a security system that was spread across the country, it gave information to death squads and coordinated their killings.

After 1967 its existence and way of working was made public and it served as an election campaign support force for the military party, Partido de Conciliación Nacional , which won all elections from 1962 to 1969.
