The Orifarm GmbH , formerly Pharma West, is a drug importer, based in Leverkusen. It has been part of the Danish Orifarm Group, the leading pharmaceutical importer in Europe, since 2005. The company's name is made up of “Ori” for original and “farm” for pharmaceutical products. As a pharmaceutical importer, the company imports original pharmaceuticals from EU countries with lower prices into Germany. Here the original drugs are often available at a lower price than drugs manufactured for the German market.
Orifarm GmbH's product portfolio currently comprises almost 900 preparations, including Rx and OTC preparations as well as diagnostics and narcotics. The company has an annual turnover of around 330 million euros and employs around 120 people.
history
Orifarm GmbH was founded on October 5, 1984 under the name Pharma Westen by Hans Dieter Ohrem and Dietmar Westen in Leverkusen. In 1993 Dietmar Westen sold his shares to the Lidl family (no connection to the supermarket chain of the same name). A few years later, in 1995, Pharma Westen was the first listed pharmaceutical importer in wholesale after the Federal Cartel Office had obliged wholesalers to also list importers. In June 1999 there was a change in management and Frank Nauert became the new managing director of Pharma Westen GmbH. Hans Dieter Ohrem sold his shares to the Lidl family in the same year. In December 2005, the Danish Orifarm Group took over the shares of the Lidl family. In 2012 Frank Nauert was replaced in the management by Ansgar Eschkötter. In March 2014, Pharma Westen was renamed Orifarm GmbH, which also indicated that the company belongs to the Orifarm Group. Ansgar Eschkötter was followed by Martin Lisker as the new Managing Director and Vice President Marketing and Sales of Orifarm GmbH in October 2014. Martin Lisker left the company at the end of November 2016. Erik Sandberg, the second managing director of Orifarm GmbH since 2014, remained managing director and will be supported again in the future by Frank Nauert, who was managing director of the company for more than 13 years between 1999 and 2012.
