Original (painting)
An original is a painting that has been made by an artist according to his own ideas, using his own technique ( painting technique ), his own style ( style criticism ) and has not been altered by outside interventions ( overpainting , restoration ).
meaning
The importance and value of an original lies in its uniqueness. In the history of art, significant original paintings are considered artistic inventions that can be compared in the broadest sense with inventions in the scientific field.
Significant originals have been copied by artists of all times for the purpose of their own training but also for economic "further use" .
features
Originals have characteristic technical features that can only be identified in their work, such as B. Pentimenti , recesses or vanishing points with the help of which the specialist can identify them as originals.
contrast
In contrast to the original are the replica , the second version, the numerous forms of copy and the forgery .
proof
Style criticism and scientific painting examination with all their possible methods are used to reliably prove the originality of a painting .
