The Orloff Chicken is a by Alexei Grigoryevich Orlov named and regarded as rare today race of the house chicken .
It is a large chicken with densely feathered neck and head, which is considered resistant to cold when fully grown. It occurs in several shades of color and weighs approx. 3 kg (hens) to 3.6 kg (roosters). The breed is more likely to be meat-based, as the hens only lay around 145 eggs per year.
Based on genetic research, it is believed that the breed first originated in Persia. In the 19th century she became known through the Russian Alexei Orlov. The breed came to the UK in the 1920s and was also bred in Germany, where the first bantams of the breed were introduced in 1925.
