Orlog ship
Orlog ship (also Orlogman ) was initially a collective term for warships of the fleets of the Netherlands , Denmark and Sweden from the 17th to 19th centuries . Later it became common for warships of the then seafaring nations.
designation
The term "orlog" comes from the Dutch term for war (oorlog). Krünitz in the Oeconomische Encyclopädie writes: Orlogsschiff ..., which some writers from Dutch and Lower Saxony retain to designate a warship. The derivation of this word is very uncertain.

In the Hanseatic League , too , certain ships were referred to as orlog ships that were used as convoy escort ships or directly as warships . They were initially equipped with slingshots ( Bliden ), later with driving work (also simply work ), a kind of huge crossbow, and finally with bombards .
That is why one spoke of orlog fleets in the case of war fleets . Although the term orlog ship did not refer to a particular type of ship, large warships were mostly referred to as orlog ships .
