Orquesta Típica (Spanish typical orchestra ) refers to the tango orchestras that began to develop in Argentina and Uruguay between 1915 and 1920 .

As a rule, an Orquesta Típica consists of piano , guitar , violins , possibly cello , double bass and several bandoneons . The Orquesta Típica are an extension of the Sexteto Típico , which are made up of 2 bandoneons, 2 violins, piano and double bass.

The first Orquesta Típica is the Orquesta Típica Criolla Greco , founded around 1915 by the bandoneonist Vicente Greco (1886–1924). From 1920 the violinist Julio De Caro (1899–1980) gave decisive impulses to the development of the Orquesta Típica in its current form.
