Orthodeoxy

As Orthodeoxie in which is medicine , a decrease in oxygen saturation with change of position of the body referred to from lying to sitting or to a standstill. It is probably caused by an orthostatic increase in blood flow in the less ventilated lower ( basal ) sections of the lungs. In normal cases, the orthodeoxia is quickly corrected by the Euler-Liljestrand reflex , and it occasionally reaches significant proportions in shunt infections or hepatopulmonary syndrome .

If there is also a shortness of breath at the same time as the decrease in oxygen saturation, this is referred to as platypnea-orthodeoxic syndrome .
