Local goods facility in Eppingen

A local goods facility (abbreviation: in Germany OG) was the part of a train station reserved for goods handling .

In contrast to the freight yard , which acts as an independent operations and traffic service point, as well as the so-called goods handling , which is at least an independent traffic service point, the local freight facility was not a separate service point, but was operationally assigned to the respective station. In the local freight facility, no freight trains were put together, but the operation was carried out by handover or shunting .

equipment

A local freight facility usually included a goods shed with the associated general cargo track for general cargo as well as one or more open loading tracks for wagon loads. Depending on requirements, loading aids such as conveyor belts , ramps, barriers for live cattle or devices for swap bodies and containers were also available.

Structural change

Due to the progressive shift of rail freight traffic to the road and the discontinuation of the transport of general cargo and express cargo in the 1990s, local freight facilities are no longer in operation in Germany.
