The three-story building was built by the merchant Leonhard Tietz in 1902; it was opened on October 11, 1902. The current facade in the style of brick expressionism dates from 1927.
A shop window front is designed throughout on the ground floor . The first floor has a band of narrow, slightly recessed windows. The ground floor and the first floor are framed by a serrated frieze . The second floor is structured vertically; between the windows are pillars, which are also drawn through the attic-like closure.
The house is located in the core area of the city area recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site of the “ historic old towns of Stralsund and Wismar ”. It is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund with the number 626.
The building was a department store belonging to “Leonhard Tietz AG”, which was founded by Leonhard Tietz and continued by his son Alfred Leonhard Tietz .
