The Ossolinski National Library in Wroclaw (Polish: Zakład Narodowy im. Ossolińskich , ZNiO), Ossolineum for short , is located in the former Matthias Gymnasium (Matthias Pen ) in Wroclaw ( Poland ).

It was founded in 1817 by its founder, Count Józef Maksymilian Ossoliński, as a research institute in the then Austro-Hungarian Lviv . In 1828 the institute, which emerged from the private library in Ossoliński and did not start work until 1827, became a publishing house . Until 1918 it was a center of Polish research during the time of the kk monarchy.

The Ossolineum, which was founded for the purpose of collecting printed works, manuscripts and prints on Polish subjects, was able to expand its holdings significantly in 1823 by adding the library of Count Henryk Lubomirski (1777–1850). Further private collections supplemented the holdings.

In 1947, due to the border changes, the Ossolineum moved to the baroque Matthias pen on the Oder in Breslau. Since 1953 the collection has been under the administration of the Polish Academy of Sciences .
