Eastern Europe is a monthly journal published by Berlin's Wissenschafts-Verlag , which analyzes current developments in politics and culture in Eastern Europe in an interdisciplinary manner. It appears in paperback format.

history

The magazine was founded by Otto Hoetzsch in Berlin in 1925 , but had to cease publication in 1939. It has appeared again since 1951.

From 1951 to 1975 the magazine was headed by Klaus Mehnert , then by Alexander Steininger until 2002, and since then by Manfred Sapper . Other editors are Volker Weichsel, Margrit Breuer, Olga Radetzkaja, Andrea Huterer and Ansgar Gilster. The editorial office was based in Berlin from 1925 to 1939 and Aachen from 1951 to 2003 . In 2003 the editorial team returned to Berlin.

According to its own presentation, "Eastern Europe" is an "interdisciplinary monthly magazine for the analysis of politics, economics, society, culture and contemporary history in Eastern Europe, East Central Europe and Southeast Europe". The publisher is the German Society for Eastern European Studies. V. (DGO).

In addition to the regular issues in German, the magazine also publishes articles in English, Russian, Ukrainian and other Eastern European languages.
