Balthasar Koepke
Balthasar Köpke (born June 7, 1646 in Nennhausen ; † July 28, 1711 in Nauen ?) Was a Protestant theologian.
Life
The son of pastor Balthasar Köpke (1609–1677), attended schools in Rathenow , Brandenburg an der Havel and Tangermünde , moved to Wittenberg University in 1665 and continued his studies at Jena University in 1666 . In 1667 he took a position as a private teacher, in 1671 he became pastor of Fehrbellin and Tarmow. Here he saw the battle of Fehrbellin and in 1695 became an inspector in Nauen. There he lost his entire library in a fire in the same year and stayed in Fehrbellin again from time to time.
Köpke had been in close contact with Philipp Jacob Spener since 1680 , whose pietistic direction he represented in his fifteen writings and thus belongs to the early representatives of that direction. As a result, he was also attacked by the representatives of the Lutheran orthodoxy, who insinuated that he was a Socinian and heretic.
On October 24, 1671 he married the widow of his predecessor Anna Magaretha Havemann, b. Wagner († November 5, 1709). From this marriage comes a daughter who died before him.
