Theodor Wotschke actually: Theodor Otto Gustav Wotschke (born March 23, 1871 in Meseritz ; † September 11, 1939 in Pratau ) was a German historian, philosopher, Protestant theologian and teacher.

Life

Theodor was born as the son of the factory owner and businessman Berthold Wotschke († 1878) and the landowner's daughter Charlotte Triebel. After attending grammar school in Meseritz, he began studying theology and philosophy at the Universities of Halle-Wittenberg in 1890, and continued this in 1892 at the University of Berlin and later in Breslau . After he had passed his first theological exam in Posen in 1893, Michaelis attended the Protestant seminary in Wittenberg in 1895 and passed his second theological exam in 1895.

At the University of Leipzig , he received his doctorate in 1896 for Dr. phil. , was ordained as assistant pastor in Gogolin on October 31, 1897 in Posen and worked as assistant pastor and religion teacher in Ostrowo from 1900 . After he had taken over a pastorate in Santomischel in 1903 , he acquired the degree of licentiate in theology in Breslau in 1906 . In 1912 he moved to Eutzsch as a pastor and became a pastor in Pratau on May 16, 1915, where he worked until his retirement on April 1, 1937.

Wotschke, who perfectly mastered the Polish language, dealt with the history of Protestantism in Prussia, Lithuania, Silesia and Poland. Many of his essays dealt with aspects of the history of Pietism and the foundations of the Lutheran Reformation history. For this he published, among other things, in the Archive for Reformation History . For his numerous regional and national significant contributions, he received an honorary theological doctorate from the University of Halle-Wittenberg in 1917 . He spent most of the last years of his life with his son's family in Piesteritz .
