Oswald Kendall

Oswald Kendall (* 4th quarter 1880 in Chorlton-on-Medlock , now part of Manchester , † 1st quarter 1957 in London ) was an English writer who wrote mostly for young readers in the USA.

Life

With his parents John and Agnes, born Murray from Manchester, he emigrated to the USA in 1892 at the age of eleven. He is said to have worked in various professions there and returned with his parents in 1902.

In May 1915 he enlisted in the army according to his motto “Go, look, and see” and was a soldier at the front until the end of the First World War. On July 1, 1916, he was wounded in the Battle of the Somme and spent several months in a London hospital. In 1917 he was taken prisoner by Germany. After the war he lived in London, where he married Kate Orton in 1919. She died in 1933; Children are not occupied.

Kendall has published several novels and wrote for the American magazine Youth Companion and English magazines such as Boy's Own Paper . His books were considered adventure stories for boys.
