The Oticon A / S is a Danish manufacturer of hearing aids . A German branch was founded in Hamburg in 1969 as a GmbH .

history

Oticon A / S was founded in 1904 by Hans Jørgen Demant in Denmark as an import company for hearing aids from the USA . After his death, his son William Demant took over the business.

In 1946 the first hearing aid made in Denmark, the Oticon TA, came onto the market. In the 1960s, Oticon founded the first branches in Europe and overseas, Oticon GmbH was founded in 1969.

Several specialized suppliers of audiological products have now come together under the umbrella of William Demant Holding . In addition to Oticon devices, these include the hearing aid brand “ Bernafon ”, the manufacturers of diagnostic instruments “Maico Diagnostics” and “Interacoustics” and the providers of wireless and digital communication solutions Sennheiser and PhonicEar . Today the company is one of the world's largest manufacturers of digital hearing systems with over 7,000 employees in more than 100 countries.

Products

Until the 1990s, Oticon hearing aids were based on analog technology, then they switched to digital technology. Further innovations, such as fully automatic models and digital amplifiers, found their way into the product range. In 2007, the first binaural hearing systems from Oticon came onto the market that communicate with each other using wireless technology and form a unit.

Research and Development

In 1977 Oticon founded the research center "Eriksholm" in Snekkersten / Denmark. Here, scientists from different countries work together with around 1,000 test subjects to deepen their knowledge of hearing.
