Otto Fend

Otto Fend (born January 7, 1938 in Götzis ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and tax officer. From 1989 to 1999 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

After attending primary school, Fend completed the lower level of grammar school in Bregenz. He then switched to the Wasagasse grammar school in Vienna, where he graduated from high school in 1959. He then studied law at the University of Innsbruck between 1959 and 1960 , but broke off his studies in 1960 and joined the Feldkirch Regional Financial Directorate as a tax officer. He worked for the tax audit department and was group leader in this department until 1998. In 1998 Fend retired.

Politics and functions

Fend was a member of the ÖGB - public service and a member of the FCG - public service and joined the ÖVP and the sub-organization ÖAAB in February 1970 . From 1975 he was a member of the Götzis municipal council and was a member of it until 2010, where he was, among other things, chairman of the social committee and the social and senior committee, chairman of the tax commission and chairman of the finance and economic committee. From 1985 to 2000 he was also a member of the local council, where he was responsible for the finance, senior citizens and social affairs departments. In 2010 Fend became a substitute member of the local council. Within the party, he worked from 1981 to 2002 as local party chairman of ÖVP Götzis, he was also an organizational officer of ÖVP Götzis and from 1980 to 1985 parliamentary group chairman of ÖVP Götzis. At the state level, he held the function of a member of the state party leadership of the ÖVP Vorarlberg and was a member of the district party leadership of the ÖVP Feldkirch. In the ÖAAB he was also active as chairman of the control committee of the ÖAAB Vorarlberg and as the financial auditor of the ÖAAB regional group “am Kumma”.

As a member of the Feldkirch constituency, Fend represented the ÖVP in the state parliament from October 24, 1989 to October 4, 1999. He was the area spokesperson for social affairs and housing within the ÖVP state parliament club. Since 2008 he has been chairman of the Götzis senior citizens' association.

Fend was very active in the club life of his home community Götzis as well as in the church sector. For example, he was involved as a member of the Götzis Church Council, a member of the Götzis Church Choir and was district chairman of the Feldkirch Catholic labor movement. In the musical field he belonged to the choral society "Liedertafel", was a member of the singing group "Schola" in Götzis and chairman of the Vorarlberger Musikschulwerk. He was also active in sports as a member of the Götzis tennis club, as a member of the Götzis gymnastics club and as a member of the Kneipp club.

Private

Fend was born the son of Stickers Otto Fend from Götzis, although his father did not return from the Second World War. His mother Anna Fend, nee Summer, was born in Fraxen . Otto Fend married Leopoldine Hebein from St. Georgen in Carinthia in 1961 and had one daughter each in 1962, 1964 and 1966.
