Oust (odor neutralizer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oust is an odor neutralizer from the US family company SC Johnson . It mainly competes with Febreze , another odor neutralizer from Procter & Gamble .

Triethylene glycol or 2,2 '- (ethylenedioxy) diethanol is the main active ingredient in Oust. Febreze works with cyclodextrins instead .

composition

Oust uses triethylene glycol (systematic name 2,2 '- (ethylenedioxy) diethanol) as the main active ingredient. There are hardly any reliable sources available about the exact composition. The most reliable source of the composition of Oust can be found on SC-Johnson's proprietary website. Oust kills, at least according to the manufacturer, not only odors but also the bacteria that cause odors. However, this statement is doubtful, since the conventional Oust is not a registered biocide according to the German Chemicals Act for biocidal products.

At the beginning of 2008, the manufacturer Oust launched 3in1 on the German market, which contains benzalkonium saccharinate in addition to the active ingredients mentioned above. This successor product is marketed as a disinfectant for surfaces and textiles and an odor neutralizer for the air. Oust 3in1 is an approved biocide and is registered in the BAuA biocide list according to the German Chemicals Act.

Others

Oust was only brought onto the market by SC Johnson after its competitor Febreze . Febreze comes in a spray bottle with a handle. When using the handle, the odor neutralizer is pumped up a narrow line and atomized into tiny drops by the pressure on a special attachment. In contrast, an Oust spray bottle is an aerosol bottle that is under pressure. When a button is pressed, the contents spray out of the metal aerosol bottle at high pressure.

Oust advertises internationally that it is the only odor neutralizer that not only covers odors, but neutralizes them directly.
