history

The company was founded in Racine , Wisconsin in 1886 as Johnson's Prepared Paste Wax Company by Samuel Curtis Johnson when he took over the parquet care division of Racine Hardware Company , and has been family-owned ever since. Currently, Dr. Herbert Fisk Johnson III as CEO of the company in the fifth generation.

The company's products are sold in over 110 countries. 11,000 people are employed at SC Johnson worldwide. Estimated annual sales were $ 8 billion in 2009 and around $ 11.75 billion in 2013. Well-known brands include Mr Muscle , Glade , Oust , WC-Ente , 00 Null Null , Pronto , Drano , Abflussfrei , Autan , Raid and Stahl-Fix . The international brands that are not available in Germany include: Baygon , F-Killer, Pledge, Shut, Shout, OFF, Scrubbing Bubbles, Saran, Ziploc, Windex, Lysoform and Bayfresh.

In Germany , the company operates as SC Johnson GmbH , based in Erkrath .

The company Melitta holds a 65% stake in the company Cofresco , a joint venture of SC Johnson and Melitta.

In 2015, SC Johnson took over the British Deb Group, a manufacturer of occupational skin protection and hand hygiene. Deb Group is committed to fighting work-related skin diseases around the world.

At the end of 2017, SC Johnson bought the Belgian company Ecover .

In 2018, the German Serafin group of companies took over the shoe manufacturer Bama from SC Johnson & Son.
