Toilet duck is the product name of a toilet cleaner from the US detergent manufacturer SC Johnson & Son . The essential characteristic of the toilet duck is the curved bottle neck, with the help of which the user should be able to apply the cleaning liquid more easily under the edge of the toilet.

history

The toilet duck was invented by the Swiss company Düring AG . The then managing director of Düring AG, the druggist Walter Düring, had the shape patented as early as 1980 based on a wooden prototype . Together with his wife Vera Düring, he then brought the product to series production. The patent protection expired in 2000. In Switzerland the market share was 40%. The product is manufactured in 12 countries and sold in 100 countries. The product name toilet duck was translated into the respective national language. Sales for Germany were taken over by the Henkel Group until 2010 , the license holder for the manufacture and sale of the product on the US market under the name Toilet Duck is the company SC Johnson & Son. From January 1, 2010, the company SC Johnson & Son also took over the production and distribution for the German market and bought the license for this from the Henkel Group. The turnover achieved from the sale of WC duck by SC Johnson in 2010 in Germany was 15 million euros.

Testing

In a test by the Swiss consumer magazine K-Tipp , issue 16/2012, the toilet duck achieved the test rating “unsatisfactory” due to its inadequate decalcifying effect.

Another test shows quaternary ammonium compounds in the toilet duck, which can damage the environment . This is also why it is recommended not to use the product.
