Life

Helt first studied ancient languages with Jakob Micyllus at Johannes Murmellius' Ludgerischule in Münster . He moved from Leipzig to Anhalt and was initially the teacher of Joachim von Anhalt and the then still Catholic clergyman and later reformer Georg III. from Anhalt ; In 1518 he became Georg's mentor. Helt received the lower consecration together with Georg in Dessau and remained his adviser and fatherly friend until his death.

Georg Helt was an eyewitness to the Leipzig disputation between Martin Luther and the Catholic theologian Johannes Eck in 1519 . A short time later, Helt confessed to the Protestant faith. He was matriculated for Protestant theology in Wittenberg in 1532 and stayed repeatedly in Wittenberg . Georg Helt was most recently rector of Dessau in Anhalt . He was also Georg von Anhalt's court bookbinder from 1537 .

In 1537, Helt was one of 43 signatories of Philipp Melanchthon's Tractatus de potestate papae ( treatise on the violence and primacy of the Pope ) and Luther's Schmalkaldic articles as a representative of the clergy of Anhalt-Dessau .
