Heinz Scheible

Heinz Scheible (born August 4, 1931 in Pforzheim ) is a German theologian and philologist . In 1963 he founded the Melanchthon Research Center in Heidelberg , which he headed until his retirement in 1997. He has published well over 500 articles on Melanchthon and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Mainz in 1994 and the Melanchthon Prize of the city of Bretten in 1997 for his research .

Life

From 1951 he studied Protestant theology and classical philology in Heidelberg, and completed his scientific-theological exam in 1956 at the Baden regional church in Karlsruhe . In 1958 he was an assistant and lecturer at the University of Heidelberg , where he in 1960 at Heinrich Born comb to Dr. theol. received his doctorate. In 1961 he received a research grant from the Baden regional church. In 1963 he founded the Melanchthon Research Center in Heidelberg, which came into the care of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences in 1965. Scheible was publisher of the critically annotated complete edition of Melanchthon about 10,000 pieces extensive correspondence and has also written more than 500 publications on Melanchthon and its historic environment, including the applicable standard work Melanchthon biography by 1997.
