Oval is an underground station on the London Underground in the London Borough of Lambeth . It is located at the busy junction of Kennington Park Road, Clapham Road, Camberwell New Road and Harleyford Road in Travelcard tariff zone 2. Northern Line trains run here . In 2013, 5.91 million passengers used the station. It is named after the nearby cricket stadium The Oval .

The station opened on December 18, 1890 as part of the first section of the City and South London Railway (now the Northern Line), the world's first electrically powered underground railway. The station was closed from November 28, 1923 to December 1, 1924. In order to increase the capacity, the tunnel profile was extended and the central platform was replaced by two side platforms. The original station building was also replaced by a new building.

Oval is one of the stations that were the target of the terrorist attacks of July 21, 2005 ; however, the suicide bomber's explosive device did not detonate. As part of a renovation, the station building received new decorative wall tiles in 2007 and 2008, on which cricketers can be seen in different positions.
