Ovarian stimulation test

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ovarian stimulation test is an examination method used primarily in veterinary medicine for dogs. It is used either in bitches who are not in heat or who are suspected of having been incompletely castrated ( ovarian remnant syndrome ).

For the examination, a blood sample is taken and the level of the two ovarian hormones estradiol-17β and progesterone is determined (blank sample). After taking the blank sample, either buserelin or human chorionic gonadotropin is injected. 60 and 90 minutes later, another blood sample is taken and the two hormone levels are determined. A blank sample may be sufficient: If the levels of the two ovarian hormones are above the base level, the stimulation can be dispensed with. If there is no increase in ovarian hormones after stimulation, the test must be repeated after a month, as some of the bitches in the anestrus do not have any after stimulationReleases luteinizing hormone .
