The SpVg Odenkirchen (officially: Sportvereinigung 05/07 Odenkirchen eV ) is a sports club from the Mönchengladbach district of Odenkirchen . The first soccer team played for two years in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region.

history

From the foundation to the Second World War

The club's roots lie with FC Hohenzollern Odenkirchen , which was founded in July 1907 . Dissatisfied members split off from this club as Borussia Odenkirchen , before both clubs merged in 1911 to form SC Odenkirchen . Two years later, the club joined the West German Game Association . After the end of the First World War , FC Hohenzollern and Borussia were re-established, but both clubs merged to form SV Odenkirchen 07 in 1919 .

This succeeded in 1926 promotion to the top division, where the team was after a 3-2 playoff win over Borussia Mönchengladbach western district champions. The Rhine district championship was missed after a 1: 4 play-off defeat against Cologne's CfR . The Odenkirchener then took part in the West German round of the second , in which the team was only penultimate. One year later, SV Odenkirchen 07 merged with Sportfreunde 05 Mülfort to form today's SpVg Odenkirchen.

The new club missed the qualification for the new first-class district league Rhine in 1929 . It wasn't until a year later that the ascent was made. In 1932, the Odenkirchener again reached the final round of the Rhine district championship, but came in last behind SpVgg Sülz 07 and Alemannia Aachen . A year later, despite a fourth place, the Odenkirchener were not included in the newly created Gauliga Niederrhein , while local rivals Borussia Mönchengladbach got a place in the new upper house as eighth of the parallel group. The Odenkirchener reached the promotion round to the Gauliga Niederrhein three times. In 1934 the team failed because of Rot-Weiß Oberhausen and Homberger SV . Two years later, TSV Duisburg 99 prevailed. In 1937, BV Altenessen 06 and Union 02 Hamborn finally rose .

post war period

After the end of the Second World War , the club was classified in the district class on the left Lower Rhine and was instantly champion. However, the Odenkirchen failed in the subsequent round of promotion. In 1948 he was promoted to the Lower Rhine regional league , the highest amateur league at the time. As penultimate in the table, the team promptly rose again. The club's management sought a merger with Germania Geistenbeck , which was rejected by the members. The successful team broke up, so that the Odenkirchener found themselves in the district class as early as 1950.

This was followed by two promotions in a row that brought the club back into the national league. But again the guest performance in the Lower Rhine amateur upper house was over after only one year. There followed many years in the district class without much success. After a runner-up in 1960 behind TuS Wickrath , a year later they were promoted back to the state league, which has only been the second highest amateur league since the Niederrhein association league in 1956. This time the team was able to hold its own for two years before going back to the district class in 1963.

In the 1970s and 1980s, the Odenkirchen team became an elevator team between the district league and district league A. Only after the turn of the millennium did things improve again when the team returned to the state league in 2004 after two consecutive promotions. After a fourth place in 2008, the Odenkirchener relegated to the district class a year later. In 2013 they were promoted to the regional league again, before the team had to relegate in 2019.

Other departments
