The FC Germania 07 Geistbeck is a football club from Mönchengladbach . The association, founded in 1907, is based in the Geistenbeck district of the same name between Odenkirchen and Rheydt .
history
The first years - before the Second World War
In April 1907 the Germania Geistenbeck association was founded. The "laying of the foundation stone" took place in the Thörel pub. The founding followed the request of many young people with the argument that they would rather play in a sensibly organized association instead of playing occasional games against other counter teams.
Seven years after the foundation and only a few friendlies and similar. a. against Hohenzollern , Borussia Odenkirchen and Rheinland Bell, in 1914 the game for inclusion in the West German game association against the city club Odenkirchen was due. The game was won 5-2. 1926/27 was the most successful year to date for the relatively young club. In addition to the championship in the district class, the Odenkirchen city championship was also celebrated.
After the Second World War - a constant up and down
The time after the Second World War began quite successfully for FC Germania Geistenbeck. In 1949 they celebrated promotion to the third-class amateur league Niederrhein , from which, however, in 1951, when they were third from bottom, they were relegated back to the district class. In the mid-1950s things picked up again, characteristic of this was the one-time return to the Lower Rhine League in 1954/55 and the title of city champion in 1955.
In 1956 the club was able to celebrate the championship in the district class again and rose to the state league, in which Germania played more or less successfully for seven long years. It was also possible to celebrate the title of mayor again this year. After it went back to the district class in 1963, there was not only the promotion of the first team to the regional league to celebrate in 1969. The second team took their place in the district class. In 1966 the club won a city championship title.
In the state league, the club was only able to hold out for one year (until 1970), and then rose again in 1978. The decisive game was won 2-1 against SG Holzheim. After the last city championship win in 1981, the team followed the previous résumé and rose again in 1983/84. The immediate resurgence was celebrated after a season without defeat. After 25 of 30 games, the club was established as champion and promoted team - relegation took place in 1988.
The 1990s and the beginning of the new millennium
The club has not recovered from this decline to this day. After relegated to the district league A and an early return to the district class (1998), the club rose again and only played in the district league A, in which the promotion was targeted every year in vain. In 2016 he was relegated to the district league B.
