Overend, Gurney and Company Limited was a London-based wholesale discount bank known as "the bankers' bank". It went bankrupt on May 10, 1866, leading to the first Black Friday in banking history. At the time of the insolvency, the bank had £ 11million in debt which was £ 905million in 2015.
