Owston Ferry Castle , also Kinnard's Ferry Castle , is an abandoned castle about 12 km north of Gainsborough in the English county of Lincolnshire .

history

It is thought that the first castle on this site was built soon after the Norman conquest of England in 1066, but was demolished in 1095.

In 1173 Roger de Mowbray had a new castle built there to support Prince Heinrich in the conflict with his father, King Henry II . The latter subsequently had the castle destroyed.

today

A broad, grassy mound has been preserved to this day on the site of the earlier Motte . The area is now a Local Nature Reserve ( conservation area ).
