Location and structure

George du Maurier's last residence

Oxford Square is part of an oval-shaped complex in the triangle between Sussex Gardens , Bayswater Road and Edgware Road , which consists of Norfolk Crescent (to the north-east), Cambridge Square (north-west), Hyde Park Crescent (south-west) and Oxford Square (south-east).

The street layout of Oxford Square begins in the northeast at number 25 Porchester Place, where a twenty-story apartment building is located. To the southwest of this is a 40-meter-long building (also on the left-hand street of Oxford Square) that houses a total of eleven row houses. At the end of these residential units, Oxford Square joins Titchbourne Row (left) and Hyde Park Crescent, which continues in a north-westerly direction (right).

Between Hyde Park Crescent and Oxford Square there is an eleven-storey block of flats where Oxford Square splits and takes a 90 degree turn in an initially north-westerly direction. After about 30 meters there is another 90 degree turn-off in a north-easterly direction until Oxford Square ends at Norfolk Crescent, the geographic continuation of Porchester Place in a north-westerly direction.

At this last section of Oxford Square there is another apartment block with eight row houses on the left. In the fourth house (coming from below) at number 17, the English writer George du Maurier spent the last year of his life before he died here on October 8, 1896.

At the junction of Oxford Square with Norfolk Crescent is the 45 meter and 15 storey high residential complex Raynham , which extends about 70 meters along Norfolk Crescent to Cambridge Square, which was laid out as a mirror image of Oxford Square.
